Activities in Paarl South Africa

The variety of activities is endless - learn all about 4X4 trails, go mountain-biking or enjoy the experience of a lifetime and go hot-air ballooning!

Or visit a crocodile breeding farm, snake park or climb Bretagne Rock and follow one of the many walking trails after which you can dangle your tired pavement-pounding feet in a sparkling mountain stream.

Visit Millwater Wild Flower Garden where 15 species of protea may be viewed. Catch trout or bass for dinner, enjoy the fresh, exhilarating feel of a horseback ride through vineyards or fynbos, or diversify and visit our bird sanctuary.

Hiking Trails

Limietberg Trail - two-day trail from the foot of Du Toitskloof via Bainskloof village Eerste Tol to Tweede Tol. Distance 36km. Donkerkloof - about 3km (2.5 hours) to the small waterfall starting in the hairpin bend on the Paarl side of the old Du Toitskloof Pass. Miaspoort - distance is 4km (3 hours) but it is a long and initially difficult walk.

Klipkershout Walking Trail - Paarl Mountain Nature reserve - various scenic walking trails from 2.4 km to 10km.

Wine Hiking Trail - Laborie Estate offer this unique trail that will appeal not only to the nature-lover, but to the botanist, horticulturist and ornithologist with a special interest in Cape flora and bird. Tel. 021 708 3390 Permits from the Cape Nature Conservation in Main Street, Paarl.

Paarl Mountain Nature Reserve

Enjoy the picturesque landscape of fynbos vegetation dominated by massive rounded granite rock formations set among wild olives, rock candlewoods and wagon trees. Take a vigorous hike, or climb Bretagne Rock, follow one of the many hiking trails, visit Millwater Wild Flower Garden where 15 species of protea may be viewed, catch trout or bass for dinner or enjoy mountain biking or picnics.

Valley Gun Club

Valley Gun Club, the largest clay target shooting facility in Africa, is situated on the R312 near Paarl. The club is open on Wednesdays from 14h00, Saturdays from 12h00 and most public holidays from 13h00. The club offers four major clay target disciplines namely Trap, Skeet, Trench and Sporting. VGC will be the host for the 2010 DTL Trap World Championships. The club caters for corporate events from 10 to 80 people and has a comfortable airconditioned clubhouse with full bar service and a fireplace.
